Northwest’s New Bathroom Policy

The administration of Northwest High School has a new bathroom policy for the beginning of the school year.
Last year’s bathroom policy let teachers make and have it be whatever. But this year the administrative offices and principals of the school have decided on one for the whole school. The bathroom policy this year is simple, people only have to fill out where they’re headed when signing in and out of the classroom.
The reason behind the bathroom policies is that the school would like to be aware of where all the students are at all times and to keep the school safe. The first bathroom QR code was created by Assistant Principal Mrs. Pitts herself, but then the teachers gave her feedback and decided to shorten the google form. Mrs. Pitts talked about how they wanted to stop teachers from taking time out of their instruction/ learning time and spending less money on hallway passes. They also just wanna make sure all students are using the pass and going to the destination that they said they were going to.
Mrs. Fokken, an english teacher, and other teachers would like to see feedback on if it’s helping with the number of people in the hallway, and if the number is reduced. They would also like to see if students are doing the QR code, so they can see if there’s a pattern. Mrs. Fokken said, “I like the idea of having teachers have the same procedure because I think it streamlines things for students.” A lot more teachers agree.
“You should let your teacher know but not have to ask,” Senior Cael Winter (senior) stated. Senior JJ Fielder senior agreed, “I mean … some of us are 18 years old and that’s considered an adult and we have to sign out and let people know when we want to use the restroom, and I think that’s kinda dumb.”
Many sophomores also agree. Sophomore Jenna Newgard said, “Sometimes I don’t like signing out because the wifi is slow and then you can’t go to the bathroom fast.” Other sophomores also think that it is a little annoying when Wi-Fi’s slow.
Most people have very different feelings about it. Some people don’t care, others do, and then there are some people who like it but feel like it could be better. But the sign-out policy isn’t going anywhere so we’re all going to have to adjust.
