In all sports over the past few years, almost all sports have gotten more aggressive.
Powell Wenthe, a sophomore Northwest Wolves football player, said, “I think kids are seeing sports more as if it’s an opportunity.”
He has played a couple of different positions in football, he went from defence to special teams. He said that he has seen many different sides of aggression in football. He has to go up against bigger kids who are trying to block him while he is trying to tackle the person with the ball. He thinks that kids in football are getting more skill,s which is leading to more aggression. He thinks that over the last couple of seasons kids have gotten bigger and rougher in terms of their position.
Nick Macbeth, a senior Northwest Wolves football player, commented, “ I started playing football my freshman year and each season has gotten more aggressive.”
Macbeth said that his time playing on the offensive line, his job became more and more about technique and physical strength. His job on the offensive line got more and more difficult each season as he worked his way up to be on the varsity team. He had to work harder to keep up with the challenges of keeping the defence away from the quarterback. He had to work hard in the gym and at his practices to help his team.
Eli Dobbs, a senior Northwest Wolves Wrestler, stated, “You go into every match with the mentality of, I’m going to war.”
Dobbs said that they have a statement written on the locker room whiteboard after one of the matches that everyone got pinned in. After this, he lived by the quote while he wrestled, and still uses this as motivation. He keeps this quote in mind while he wrestles, and it helps him stay fighting back. Dobbs said that he is a very aggressive person because he is someone who likes to pin his opponent.
