FFA’s Food Drive Feeding Waukee

Starting January 7 and continuing through the month of January, the Waukee Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter is holding a food drive for the Waukee Area Christian Services.
The Waukee FFA is asking for unexpired, non-perishable food items from members of the Waukee community. Food items can be turned in at the front offices of the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center (WILC), both the Northwest and Waukee High Schools and Prairieview.
All the food raised in the drive will be donated to the Waukee Area Christian Services (WACS) nonprofit organization. WACS provides supplemental food, clothing, medical services and other necessities to anyone who finds themselves in need.
The Waukee FFA chapter advisor, Heidi Mandt, stated, “[Waukee Area Christian Services] is a great cause, and it benefits people right here in Waukee. Recongnizing the importance of serving people right here in your community is a skill I want our chapter [of the FFA] to put an emphasis on.”
The Waukee FFA chapter focuses on community service, and every month, they have a community outreach activity. Northwest sophomore and FFA member Addax Hicks suggested holding a food drive to support those in need in the Waukee community.
Hicks explained, “I feel like poverty is not as conspicuous here in Waukee, but you may never know if someone is in need, so I feel like it is important to provide help for the community.”
The Waukee FFA chapter hopes that this food drive will help publicize its organization and raise awareness for the WACS. For more information on the Iowa FFA, visit its website here. For more information about the Waukee Area Christian Services, visit its website here.
