“I think mental health days are important to have because it helps students to be able to take a break from school or sports and to be able to focus on their school work,” stated senior Nora Conant.
Mental health days offer students the chance to reset and slow down. These days can help students manage their stress levels and prevent more serious mental health issues from developing. Taking a mental health day can allow students to engage in self-care activities that they might otherwise neglect. Whether it is spending time with family, enjoying a hobby or simply resting, these days help students reconnect with themselves.
“For students and adults, things can get very stressful, and sometimes you need days to unwind and relax or catch up on some things. It is very important to keep a good work-life balance,” stated sophomore Jillian Kress.
In today’s academic environment, achievement and success are often prioritized. The pressure to perform at a high standard can lead to overwhelming feelings of anxiety. Mental health days provide a break that allows students to recharge and reset. These breaks can be especially beneficial when juggling multiple responsibilities.

“I think mental health days are important because they prevent burnout and give you a chance to catch up on homework,” stated senior Hope Raife.
Furthermore, mental health days can teach students the importance of taking a break. Many high school students are perfectionists regarding their grades and extracurriculars. They often feel compelled to push through exhaustion and stress, believing that relentless effort will lead to success.
