Top Golf recently opened in West Des Moines on Mills Civic Parkway on September 6. The brand new facility is now open year-round because of its heavy amount of climate-controlled bays. Top Golf has interactive digital programs that allow them to offer different kinds of mini target games so that people with little golf skills still enjoy their experience.
Top Golf Corporate Employee, Karen G stated, “Top Golf opening in Des Moines is [a] continuation of their effort to enjoy new destinations of fun, relaxation, and unforgettable memories.” Top Golf now resides in the capital of Iowa, becoming one of 80 locations nationwide. Reservations for 2-hour windows are now available on their website.
Each Top Golf bay comes with all the necessary equipment, including a variety of golf club sets and unlimited balls. They have elite heating and cooling systems that can control the temperature by 30 degrees. Loaded with high tech ball tracking, their software can tell users the ball’s maximum speed and distance. It can also create a model on the various screens in the bay that display how the ball traveled. The bay even contains two flat screen TVs to enhance games or allowing players to keep up with big sporting events while playing.
Top Golf is known for its sports bar-type vibe, with food and drink being available. Options range from Honey Pepperoni Flatbreads to their specialty “Hole in One Donut Holes.” These staple donut holes come with injectable filling such as chocolate or strawberry flavors. The Des Moines location operates a full bar inside the building if golfers want to take a break and escape the action of the bays.
Top Golf ‘food runner’ employee and Northwest High School student, Zoey Prough, said “My favorite [Top Golf] snack is the Chicken Coleslaw Sliders.”
Prough stressed that, “We’ve been busy these first few weeks and have had some late nights, and have been booked out a lot.” She also stated that, “Top Golf has made me think that people who play golf are less weird, because golf is actually really fun.”
Northwest High School Boys Varsity Golf team member, Landry Vogelaar, believes “Top Golf is able to introduce a lot of new people to the game of golf, and hopefully they will find enjoyment in it.” The fun nature of top golf certainly contrasts a normal golf course, which is why it could bring new and inexperienced players into the sport.
