Homecoming Game Recap

On Friday, September 20th, 2024, the much anticipated Homecoming game at Waukee Northwest Stadium, against Dowling Catholic High School resulted in a loss with the score of 21- 14.
The first quarter started With Waukee Northwest scoring a touchdown and the additional point. But not soon after, Dowling Catholic scored a touchdown as well and also completed the extra point. The first quarter ended not soon after with a tie between Dowling Catholic and Waukee Northwest, with a score of 7-7.
One of Northwest’s student sections watches the game as the audience captains wave the Waukee Northwest flag and the United States of America flag, hyping up the audience to support the football players playing against Dowling Catholic.
Waukee Northwest started off the second quarter strong, as they scored a touchdown and the additional point against Dowling Catholic which increased our score by seven. Neither side was able to score another touchdown for the remainder of the quarter. Waukee Northwest ended the first half winning with a score of 14-7.

The halftime show was first kicked off with a feature of Waukee Northwest’s homecoming court, which attended the game, with the court including the crowned Homecoming King and Queen, Kellan Croat and Greta Paulson.
The homecoming court that was at the game from left to right: Gehrig Lachenmaier, Anne Taoh, Rylee Cooper, Nolan Craig, Lauren Dunn, Kellan Croatt, Greta Paulsen, Shelby Dehnke and Davis Thompson who were called upon at the very beginning of halftime.
After the introduction of the Homecoming court, the Waukee Northwest Dance Team entered the field and performed their dance showcase which was performed in the center of the field. The dance team’s performance was then followed by the Royal Brigade’s performance, “Imagine”.
The Royal Brigade’s performance was filled with common objects that many may remember from childhood. These said objects were things like seesaws and wooden letter blocks. The colorful performance has the band wearing a colored vest underneath their band wear, while the color guard wore dresses that flip to reveal a different color. The amount of colors represented the imagination and vibrancy of many people’s childhoods. Their performance ended and the second half began.
The third quarter began and was a struggle for both sides until mid-third quarter, when Dowling Catholic scored a touchdown and the kick against Waukee Northwest. Waukee Northwest was unable to make a comeback and Dowling Catholic scored their second touchdown and kick in the quarter, giving them the winning score thus far; 14-21.

The beginning of the 4th quarter started with both sides pushing for another touchdown, but neither side were not able to score more points leaving Dowling Catholic with the win at the end of the game. This left the final score of the game; 14:21.
Waukee Northwest High School’s Homecoming game against Dowling Catholic High School ended in a close, but unfortunate loss by seven points.
