Super Bowl LVIII Recap

Super Bowl Sunday is a day that ends in ecstasy for one fanbase, and anguish for the other. On February 11th, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs took down the San Francisco 49ers in a back-and-forth overtime finish. 

This instant classic marks the second time the Chiefs have beaten the 49ers in a Super Bowl and the third time Coach Kyle Shanahan has lost in the last dance after a game-winning drive from the opposing team. 

A heartbroken, but optimistic Coach Shanahan said post-game, “There’s nothing different to say, I mean I don’t care how you lose when you lose Super Bowls, especially ones you think you can pull off, it hurts.” he continued “We’re hurting right now, but it doesn’t take away from how proud of our guys I am. I’m really proud of them today, too. […] I love our team. We’ll recover, and we’ll be back next year strong.” The 49ers’ spring training officially starts February 22nd, 2024.

Sophomore Emma Eckhart looks forward to the draft. She said, “I think if you have good rookies that can learn fast, they can heavily affect a team’s outcome.” A positive Eckhart added, “I hope that Brock Purdy and the 49ers will be [back next year]! It seems like the Chiefs can pull it together even after an 11-6 regular season, but I hope they won’t be in the Super Bowl next year.”

Mr. Lichty teaches trigonometry and algebra II at Northwest. He believes both teams a strong contenders for the 2024-25 season. He said, “Any team can win or lose in the playoffs. I think that both the Chiefs and the 49ers will make a run again in the playoffs next year. I was honestly a little surprised that the Chiefs took it all the way this year.” Lichty specified, “I am not sure at what point we would start to consider this a dynasty. As a Chiefs fan, I like the sound of it. How about we can call this a dynasty if they win another Super Bowl next year.” The Chiefs begin their spring training on February 22nd in the wake of their second consecutive Super Bowl win.

The Chiefs, 49ers, and all other 30 NFL teams look forward to adding new players to boost their chances at making the Super Bowl during the NFL Draft from April 25th-27th.
