One of the hottest debates on social media has taken over Northwest. Many students have read or watched, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” series, which has sparked the question, Jeremiah or Conrad Fisher?
The series is based on a love triangle between Conrad, Jeremiah and Belly. The two boys are often fighting over Belly which has left fans taking sides.
“I’m team Jeremiah all the way,” junior Zuri Patterson stated.
“I’m team Conrad,” junior Addi Blythe said.
As the two boys fight over Belly, she is stuck with the constant battle of which brother she wants. Because Belly can never fully decide on who she wants, she often goes back and forth never settling on one of them.
Conrad is Belly’s first love. His mixed emotions towards Belly often leaves her confused. Regardless, he has a deep connection with Belly that will always be there. Ever since Belly was young, she was charmed by Conrad and that feeling never went away as she continued to get older. In flashbacks seen in the show and books Jeremiah and Belly don’t seem to be anything more than friends.
“I’m team Conrad because he wants something with Belly unlike Jeremiah who just wants her all because she had a glow-up,” stated sophomore Shay Davis.
Jeremiah is the younger brother and Belly’s best friend. He is also in love with Belly. Jeremiah has a sweet personality and he knows what he wants, unlike Conrad’s complex emotions. During the second book and season, it’s shown that Conrad makes Belly cry on her prom night and he forgets her corsage. This hurts Belly even though she is supposed to be the one he loves. Jeremiah and Conrad both were suffering through the grief of losing their mother but Jeremiah never dismissed Belly and made her feel unwanted, that was all Conrad. When Conrad and Belly are on and off dating their relationship always ends toxically. Jeremiah is Belly’s safe place and her best choice if she wants a healthy relationship.
“Jeremiah is just the better brother. He has loved Belly the whole time,” stated Patterson.
In book three it’s confirmed that Belly and Conrad are endgame but Author Jenny Han makes no promises that the show will be the same as the book. Season three is expected to come out in the summer of 2024, so until then all viewers can do is choose sides and hope Belly makes the right choice.
