On February 1st, 29 seniors at Waukee Northwest High School signed to the college they will be attending.
Many students take years to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives, how they want to live the rest of their lives, and even the big decision of what steps they are going to take to get themselves there. Henry Manning, a senior at Northwest, is signing to the University of Central Missouri for golf. Manning has taken many steps to get into the position he is in today. Manning states, “During the summer I spend 6-7 days a week at the golf course for over 8 hours a day. Either playing or practicing.” Manning has been playing golf for over 10 years and has learned almost everything he knows from his dad.
The amount of students that work very hard to get to where they are today is incredible. Northwest has so many students who are amazing athletes along with amazing opportunities. Although they make it seem easy, students work their hardest to get to where they are today. Jackson Adams is a senior at Northwest who signed with Augustana University for football. Adams expressed, “Hard work, dedication, consistency, support from my family, coaches and trainers.” These are the steps that Adams took to get into the position he is in today.
A huge step in someone’s life is going to college, it’s the first time that they are away from home, and they’re on your own for a lot of it. It’s the next big step in someone’s life. How does someone decide what college to go to? Pryce Sandfort is a senior at Northwest who signed with the University of Iowa. Sandfort states, “What made me sign to Iowa was the fit that I had with the coaches, players, and program overall.” Sandfort has spent countless hours getting into the position he is in today. Sandfort states, “I would not have made it this far without the help of those people.”
Athletes consistently make decisions to better themselves, push themselves, and make sacrifices to get to where they are at. Ava Smith, a senior at Northwest, signed with Indian Hills Community College for softball. After Smith broke her hand she had to work really hard to get into the position she is back in today. Smith states, “After I broke my hand it really was just personal motivation that led to me being able to get back to playing so soon.”
