On February 7th, 2023 history in the NBA was broken when Lebron James (38) beat the scoring record at Crypto Arena in Los Angeles, California after it was held for 38 years by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar beat it on April 5th, 1984, scoring 31,420 points in his career.
Many students at Waukee Northwest have very different opinions on this topic and everyone agrees that it is impressive what Lebron did, but that doesn’t mean they think he is the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
Damarko Moore’s thoughts on James beating the scoring record are well a part of what many others think. Moore stated, “I think Lebron beating the scoring record is very good for him and his career, but I think a big factor that helped him with that is how long he has been playing in the NBA, I do think Lebron is the best in the NBA currently, and you could argue he is best of all time, but in my opinion, it’s Michael Jordan (MJ).”
There are also the people that think Lebron James is the Greatest Of All Time. Gage Miller said, “I don’t think anyone will ever be able to beat Lebron’s record ever again. I think Lebron is the best player to ever exist.” It is clear that this topic is very controversial and there’s not just one opinion to it, there are many.
Tristan Bett has a common thought as others northwest. Bett stated, “I have respect for Lebron beating the scoring record and it’s very impressive. I think for MJ’s era, it makes him the greatest and toughest player to play in the NBA.”
Will anyone else beat Lebron’s record? That’s something everyone will have to wait and find out. Is he the best? That’s debatable but that choice is for each person to decide.
