The 65th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 5th, 2023, showcased and rewarded many of Northwest students’ favorite artists.
One of the biggest highlights of the entire night was when Beyoncé made a fittingly regal entrance. She came to the awards ceremony late after being stuck in traffic, which caused her to miss her first Grammy win of the night for Best R&B Song. Once she arrived at the show, however, she made history when she became the biggest winner in Grammy history, winning a record-breaking 32nd award. I think she is one of the best artists in history, even before she won her big awards, when she was in Destiny’s Child. She thanked her fans when she won her record-breaking award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance. She also made a point to thank the queer community, saying, “I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre.” This statement spoke to queer people everywhere and showed love to the community.
Fan favorite artist Taylor Swift was the life of the party at the Grammy Awards. Although she didn’t perform, she danced to the music during many other celebrity performances. The fact that she didn’t perform was totally shocking to me, since I think she is one of the best artists in our generation. She puts on an incredible and entertaining performance, no matter what. One of which was her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, which shocked viewers, since Swift is known for writing songs about, and being against her exes. Although nobody really knows what happened between the two, or why they broke up, it was clear to see that both parties have forgiven each other, despite what may have happened in the past. They were photographed talking and hanging out at the Grammy after party, and these photos made Swifties everywhere love Taylor even more since she was talking to her ex.
Harry Styles made the night magical with a performance of “As It Was,” from his Album of the Year winning Harry’s House. In his performance, he danced and sang on a rotating stage. It was identical to the stage that was used in the “As It Was” music video, which is standing at more than 200 million views. He dressed in a silver tinsel fringe jumpsuit which added to his already energetic, exuberant and expressive performance in the best way. Styles also won Best Pop Vocal Album. In his second triumphant speech of the night, he explained, “This album, from start to finish has been the greatest experience of my life, and playing it has been the greatest joy.” I think that Harry Styles is going to go down in history as one of the best singers/performers.
The 65th annual Grammy Awards brought out so many musical highlights and left viewers yearning for more.
