Valentine’s Day is a celebration on February 14th and it is a holiday dedicated to love.
Valentine’s day originated from a Christian Feast day honoring a man named Valentine. Now, Valentine’s Day is a day full of romance, gift-giving, eating out, and simply being with loved ones.
Sophomore Aubrey Schultz stated, “Valentine’s day is one of my favorite holidays because everyone wears pink and it’s filled with love and happy feelings.”
Many Northwest students had plans for Valentine’s Day this year including Senior Payton Coates. “I’m hanging out with my boyfriend, Jon Rinehart, and watching a movie and having a nice dinner with him,” she stated.
Galentine’s Day is a twist on Valentine’s Day. It is a holiday to show love and friendship between women and their other female friends. The term Galentine’s Day was originally from an episode of the sitcom Parks and Recreation. Galentine’s Day celebration is on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day.
Galentine’s Day is very similar to Valentine’s Day. It is a celebration full of yummy snacks, gift-giving, and being with friends.
Senior Kiana Carnes stated, “I have never done a Galentine’s celebration before but I did this year and it was so fun! There were lots of good snacks and desserts and cute decorations and it was fun to be with my friends.”
Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day are both popular commercial holidays in many countries such as the United States, The United Kingdom, Britain, Australia, and many more.
The two holidays have created a constant argument about which holiday is the best. Some believe Valentine’s is a cheesy holiday and Galentine’s is better. And some people believe the opposite that Valentine’s day is a day to show your true love for your partner.
Schultz is team Valentine’s day. She stated. “Valentine’s Day is just a little bit more special because you get to spend time with someone who you care for. It is a different feeling with someone you love versus your friends.”
While Junior Kaylee Cords is team Galentine’s day. She stated, “I personally believe that Valentine’s Day is an overrated holiday because I believe you should love someone every day and we shouldn’t spend one day to realize that,”
It can be easy to compare both Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day but both are holidays to show love, romantically and platonically.
