Staff Member of the Year- Mrs. Jess Savage
Mrs. Savage is a History teacher at Northwest Northwest High School. She was nominated many times for her amazing kindness and accommodation of all student’s needs. Mrs. Savage explained that working with students brings her joy. “We don’t make a lot of money, we have a lot of stress but the human capital we’re dealing with just makes it worth it,” said Mrs. Savage. When she’s not at work she loves to hang out with her family, including Mr. Savage, another Northwest History Teacher. She likes to listen to the guitar and lots of games with her family, specifically Catan. Mrs. Savage didn’t always plan on becoming a teacher. Once she graduated high school, Mrs. Savage went to Drake to study law. “I quickly realized that everything I loved or thought I would love about being a lawyer, I probably wouldn’t get to do without giving my life to a career that I just didn’t feel passionate about,” Mrs. Savage explained. After completing her senior year of law school, she attended the School of Ed at Drake and received a masters degree in teaching. Since then, she has been an amazing teacher loved by her students.
