Northwest Fest: A Night to Remember

On Thursday, September 29th, starting at six, was Northwest (NW) Fest, a time for the NW community to gather, play games and celebrate the homecoming king and queen coronation.
For the student council, there has been a lot of planning events like the dance and NW fest as well as the coronation. Someone who has been involved in a great deal of planning this event is Senior Kate Meyer. Meyer stated, “It’s a time for the community to really come together and for kids to have fun and see what high school activities and sports are about.” After the fest itself, there was the coronation and powderpuff football. Sophomore Krish Sehgal stated, “I think it’s a really fun way to help get involved and help out the activities that you’re involved in.” All the work put into the event should be one to remember.
At the event, there were food trucks where people had to wait almost 45 minutes for food. The wrestling tent showed pride when showing up in wrestling uniforms and sporting them throughout the night. Shortly after the food trucks and stands were packed up, there was the coronation for the NW Homecoming King and Queen. The NW student body voted Natalie Becker and Drew Lehman as queen and king respectively. Right after the coronation was the powderpuff football between the sophomores, juniors and seniors playing 15-minute games. The first game was the juniors vs. sophomores. It was a close game with both teams making impressive running plays, however, the juniors won, advancing to play the seniors. During the next game, the juniors wowed the fans by putting up six points early in the game, leaving them to walk away with the win for powderpuff football. Don’t let the score be misleading, the seniors played their hearts out throwing an incredible 34-yard pass that was barely missed. It had been a night to remember and was on a much larger scale than last year’s event. Overall, the NW community seems very pleased with their student council and is excited to see what’s next in the upcoming events.
