The Halloween holiday is approaching quickly, and along with the haunted houses, costumes and pumpkin patches, there is decadent Halloween candy that we crave each year. Some candies overwhelm your taste buds with rich chocolate and others with a sweet, fruity flavor. With hundreds of candies to choose from, it’s hard to pick which ones are going to fill your pantry this year. Below is a list of 5 popular candies that are worth putting in your trick-or-treat basket, ranked.
5. HERSHEY’S MILK CHOCOLATE
Hershey’s can be used in multiple ways such as s’mores, melting chocolate, Christmas cookies, just to eat and more. Hershey’s tasty simplicity makes it a Halloween staple. The only problem is that it is loaded with unnecessary sugar and you would get a bar of more genuine chocolate elsewhere.
4. SOUR PATCH KIDS
These candies have many different versions. Original, watermelon, strawberry, tropical, filled, all blue, grape, mango and many more. Sophomore Megan Herr stated, “I like that they both have sour and sweet aspects to them.” The variety of flavors in this sweet and sour candy makes it a tasteful candy to add to your basket.
3. STARBURST
Starburst has many great things about them such as the chewy texture and the bold fruit flavor. The best part is opening a two-pack of Starburst not really knowing what you’re going to get. Whether it’s tropical, original or very berry, the starburst candies are a great fruity-flavored candy.
2. ALMOND JOY
Even though Almond Joy is a controversial one, it is definitely one of the most unique. The Almond Joy contains a chocolate coating with a coconut filling and an almond engraved into the chocolate. These candies have a milk and a dark chocolate version. Both are equally appealing and are worth eating. Sophomore Emily Spencer stated, “Almond Joys are really really really good. The dark chocolate ones are especially superior.”
1. REESE’S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS
These mouthwatering candies are filled with peanut butter and topped with a rigid chocolate coating in the shape of a cup. Sophomore Lexi Gabrielson works in her family’s rolled ice cream truck. Gabrielson stated, “Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is the most popular candy [sold in the truck.]” The candy also comes in many different shapes such as pumpkins for Halloween and eggs for Easter, making this candy the solid #1.
