Prom and After Prom Review

This past Saturday, April 30, 2022, was the night of Waukee Northwest’s first prom. It began a series of new traditions, and many people celebrated this night in a variety of different ways. In this article, I am going to talk about and review Northwest’s prom and after prom, and elaborate on the many ways students, staff, and parents made this a night to remember. Mostly everyone began their night by dressing up in their formal attire, going somewhere to take pictures, followed by dinner and the dance. The most common dinner spots tended to be downtown at places such as Centro or Americana. Sadie Gallick, junior, stated “My group went to 801 Grand. I’ve never been before, but it was really good.” While many went downtown, some stayed in the Waukee or West Des Moines area and went to places such as Biaggi’s and Firebirds. These are all common places that provide the most satisfaction to students at our school. Picture spots also varied, but many groups ran into each other while getting their pictures taken. Typical picture hotspots included Des Moines Golf, different parks, and inside stairwells and glass buildings in downtown Des Moines. Junior Sydney Barton stated, “My group was going to go to Des Moines Golf, but with the weather and the wind we ended up at a building downtown!” While many groups experimented with these different indoor and outdoor venues, there were still large numbers of people who stayed in their homes and took pictures there.
After an eventful evening for most, everyone arrived at the dance, which was held at the Horizon Events Center in Clive. Beautifully decorated, the shoes came off, the dance floor became packed, and the music blasted. The dance was from 8:00 to 10:00, leaving an hour in between for everyone to prepare for after prom, which began at 11:00 and was held at the school. Full of food, music, inflatables, games, raffles, and a whole casino, the halls and commons of Northwest High School was jam-packed and full of life. Kassidy Brown exclaimed, “The inflatables were my favorite part!” The busiest area tended to be the casino, with a range of blackjack and roulette tables, next to a bank to trade cash in for tickets which could then be placed in a drawing for prizes. It lasted from 11:00 to 5:00, with a hypnotist at 3:00. This night called for a good time, fun experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
