Valentine’s day is the one day a year that couples, family members, and friends express their undying love to each other. While one can do this any day of the year, Valentine’s Day is a way to do it with gifts, such as candy, flowers, or letters, and is also a way to celebrate traditions with those that are special. Associated with the colors red and pink, Valentine’s candy and decorations illuminate grocery stores all over, selling out quickly. With the holiday comes sweetness, and people’s favorite valentine’s candy differs in states all over the country. It has been found that it’s a race between conversation hearts and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. Sixteen states like heart-shaped chocolate, while twelve like the conversation hearts. (except for Arizona, because m&ms got that honor). Taylor Haindfield, junior at Northwest, exclaimed, “My favorite candy has always been the conversation hearts!” What many people remember about Valentine’s Day are the parties that happened every year in elementary school. It was a time to give love to teachers and classmates and is what really grew a love for Valentine’s Day for many people.
Often, groups of girls will get together and do what is called Galentine’s day, which is a day to spend with girl friends to express love for one another. Jillian Mayer, junior at Northwest exclaimed, “In the past, I have really enjoyed doing Galentines, but this year I will be spending time with my girlfriend!” Whether spending time with a significant other or just hanging out with friends and family, it can still be a day to make tons of new memories. Peyton Sailer, also a junior at Northwest stated, “A tradition that I do is making chocolate-covered strawberries with my mom every Valentine’s Day!” Finding Valentine’s gifts for friends or significant others can be a hassle, especially when someone does not know what they want. Some of the top gift ideas for 2022 include perfume or cologne, jewelry, and beauty products. Lots of people try finding meaningful and thoughtful gifts that will be remembered for years to come.
