Study Room Review

At Northwest, students use the group study rooms, located upstairs above the lunchroom, to work on projects, study for tests, and more.

At Northwest, students use the group study rooms, located upstairs above the lunchroom, to work on projects, study for tests, and more. The students think the rooms are satisfactory but have a few things they would like to change.

Some students have expressed that the windows surrounding the group study rooms are distracting, while some have said that they are helpful. Sophomore, Meredith Menning explained, “It’s kind of weird having people [watch] you study.” On the other hand, Ragan Swanson, a sophomore, expressed, “If someone needs your attention, like a teacher from outside of the rooms, the teachers would be able to get your attention through the windows.” Without the windows, students could miss important things going on outside of the room like an intruder, an unconscious peer, or anyone in need of help. Menning suggested, “We should make [the windows] tinted.” This way, it makes students more comfortable and allows them to see their surroundings.

Many Northwest students find the group study rooms inviting. Swanson said, “They look really nice and they have plenty of seating so if you want to have a big group of friends to study after school or during lunch, you have the opportunity to do that.” Sophomore, Leif Foussat also explained, “[It is] a good room to work with without all the outside noise and it’s easier to hear people since it’s not out in the open. It’s an enclosed space. Plus, it gives you a really cool view of the cafeteria.” Some students have a few things they would like to add to the rooms. Menning proposed, “They should add a whiteboard.” The whiteboard would allow you to express ideas, write lists and draw pictures.

The group study rooms are a necessary and important part of Northwest High School. Many students are grateful that they have been supplied with a quiet place to work.
